I am looking for a village that I have have been told is my family name of BUGAN. Also, I believe the town of Zilina, S.R. (Bytca region), is where my gramdmother named Zofia Susan SMEHIL is from. Her parents are Mary HOLES and Joseph Smehil. Are orphanages of this area shown? Zofia was orphaned young. My Grandfather (BUGAN) is listed as coming from VICOV, Austria about 1910. Have other surname of ZAJAC. (may be Moravian) Will the software tell the villages where people of these names may have originated?Other names of ancestors that are cousins to the BUGAN family are SLADEK and ANDRESIK. A name that I have is (Zorton) Martinus Edward Bugan (Andrasek ), if I have right spelling. Will this software tell me if my family name of Bugan is indeed that of a village? My big dream is to find the parents of my great grandfather Stephanus Bugan. I have searched for years. I am told I am of Slovak descent with possible touch of Polish somewhere in there.

A fantastic product! In five minutes I found both villages I have searched for on and off for a number of years. The maps finally make sense of present day Ukraine as it relates to the old names and locations in the Austro-Hungarian Empire in this area. Another help was the Hungarian, Russian, and English names. I could not be happier with the CD. Thank you.

Hello~ My paternal grandfather, Anton Joseph Rupar, came from the town of St. Vid in Slovenia in 1909. He settled in Pueblo, Colorado (about 1910) and worked in a steel mill. Does anyone know which country St. Vid is in now ? Also, are there other villages near by? I know its a ski-town now, but would like to know everything about its history and transition since WWI to date. My father, Anthony Joseph Rupar, his eldest and only son, was born in Pueblo, Colorado, and became a Marine in 1944. His military work took our family to Southern California in the 1960's - where I was raised. If anyone reads this who mightbe a close or distant relative in Slovenia, etc.~ please write~! Would love to chat~! Thanks, Marilyn Rupar ~~ [email protected]

Thanks for the marvellous program. I have only had a chance to have a quick look at it since downloading, but I must congratulate you. It is excellent and very easy to navigate. I have not bought it for genealogical purposes but as a huge mine of information on the changing political geography of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It is especially valuable to a philatelist of that area who needs to know what the names of the villages were and where they are now in the modern states. I shall recommend it to the Austrian Philatelic Society.

My kids are funny. They ask me what I want for Christmas, I told them, but they did not get it for me. But surprise, surprise, yesterday was my birthday and sure enough, there was my Hungarian Village Finder CD all wrapped up in Christmas paper. After I found the towns I was looking for, two of which I had not been able to find until now, I spent the majority of the rest of the night eating cake and exploring this INCREDIBLE program.Turning 60 is not so bad when you've got kids who love you, a computer and programs like this to help tear down those brick walls and get going again.

Took me two minutes to download the whole program and then about 6 minutes to locate three towns, two that I have been searching for for several years. I recommend this to anyone who is researching their German family history from the Austro-Hungarian era.

This CD  has been a huge help. I'm excited to say I found not one but two of my ancestral villages, both within minutes! It was that easy. I can't get over the amount and quality of the information. I particularly appreciated the Hungarian pronunciation aids. The site hostess truely is a friend to the Hungarian geneology researcher.
